SOLAR MODULE TESTING
USED SOLAR MODULE BASIC FUNCTIONALITY TESTING:
TEST 1: Voltage
if voltage is compromised this would clearly indicate a bad module that needs replacing:
1.
Use a multimeter rated for DC Voltage - if it has separate voltage settings set to the 200V one.
1.
Connect the posiive and negative connector of one single solar panel togeter, use a DC rated clamp meter set to its setting thats next higher than the short circuit amps of the panel (for example, meter has 2A, 20A and 100A settings, your panel is 10A so use the 20A setting)
2.
Used panels that are good will have VOC within 5% rating of the original specifications when tested in full sun, ideally 11am to 3pm with no clouds - a cloud may change voltage a few volts but you can still get an idea if they're good or bad
2.
You should get within 10% of the short circuit amps if you're in full sun.
3.
A bad panel may give you 50% voltage or something; this would be severely compromised and should be replaced
3.
If you get 0 amps your panel is either bad or check wiring. If any modules are 40% or more less than your other modules then recommend replacing to return your system to full production
